Classic Carers: The importance of good care notes

It is always a pleasure to have some great feedback from families for the carers who become an integral part of the families of the elderly they care for. But great feedback comes from some outstanding communication with the client and true compassion. A big thanks to Jane, Vinay, Nigel Herring not only for what they do for the clients every single day but some great notes they leave for the family to be assured that their loved ones are in safe caring hands. To grasp what they do for these vulnerable people….read some of their daily diaries….

“…. bright this morning. Has completed personal care independently, apart from needing a little assistance with legs. C/O aching legs today, is making sure she is taken mg it slowly and resting with her legs up. …. chose to have coffee and a toasted tea cake today. We had a chat about all sorts! I unloaded the dishwasher and made the bed. The daughter had prefilled water jug ready for this morning. …. asked if it might be possible to do some tasks such as changing the bed, we talked about her asking for whatever she needs. Before leaving I made sure that …. was comfortable and didn’t require anything else. All’s well.

Another one:

The cat …. was outside this morning on my arrival, when I went into the house, I have found …. on the floor, near his TV under the stairs. I’ve asked him how did he end up there and if had fell down, he said that he could not sleep very well in his bed twisting and turning all night, so came downstairs half asleep and couldn’t find his way to the sofa in the darkness, so he laid down on the floor near the TV, using his shoes and cardigan as pillow. I’ve helped him up on his feet and took him to the sofa.

He asked me for some tea, I’ve made it for him and changed him into new clothes downstairs while doing his personal care routine.

I did not find any injuries. However, I’ve found more bruises on his right forearm and the old ones became more prominent given that he was laying on the same hand on the floor all the night. I’ve took the pictures with his consent.

He had a bowl full of rice pudding, a chocolate cake.

Was very bright and active, I’ve asked him if he has cold, he told me that he had running nose. while I was about leave him he had this chesty cough. I’ve left a note for his family.

Washed his dishes, did his laundry, and left him safely with a chocolate biscuit.”

At the end of the day when I read terms such as “left him comfortable”, “Alls well”, “made sure”, “left him safe”….it makes me smile when at the end of the day I look at what the staff has done for our clients. So proud of you all.
